History will probably be made tomorrow when some lucky
bugger will win 1.5 billion dollars in the Powerball Lottery. In the unlikely event
it isn’t won tomorrow, and then the prize will go up to 2 Billion dollars for
Saturdays draw. No matter what happens, it will be what can only be described
as “CRAZY MONEY!!!!”
There are many people in the world that have a net worth
equal to or more than a billion dollars. However, they have all earned that
money by being an old time robber baron, drug lord, arms dealer, inherited
their fortunes or come up with a social networking idea or changed the way we
communicate with each other. All of those methods took years and a lot of hard,
nose to the grindstone, work to accumulate the funds. That kind of money also
takes constant supervision to keep it healthy and growing.
Tomorrow there will be for the first time in history someone
that has neither the drive, intelligence or temperament to have a billion
dollars. That person will have made their fortune the hard way, by winning it! We
will be able to watch the birth of a dynasty. Hopefully whoever wins will get good
advice and be able to stay relatively normal while being lifted to the
stratosphere. It just might be magical.
We might also see a normal person crushed under the weight
of good fortune. I certainly can’t comprehend a billion or more dollars and I
doubt that many people would be able to. I hope that whoever wins has a good
group of friends now, because it will be hard to separate the gold diggers from
the well wishers. Family and friends will crawl out of the woodwork with pleas
for money and only a strong personality will be able to say no. It will also be
hard to say no to a parent whose child is sick and just needs to go to a
special clinic that will save the kids life. Real or scam? The potential for
kidnapping is scary.
I think that whoever wins the money should take a long and
lovely holiday in some paradise just to think about how their life will change.
Yes, they should pamper themselves; after all they are the world’s newest
billionaires. They should also start to think how they can use the money to
help people locally and abroad. They will need to have something positive to
attach to the money; it can’t be only about them.
I can’t help but think about the 1969 movie with Peter
Sellers and Ringo Starr called “The Magic Christian”. It is about having an
abundant supply of money and how to use it. I’m not sure that the new billionaire
should do the same, but it would be pretty funny.
I do wish the winner all the best and conveniently, he/she
will be able to afford the best from now on. Congratulations!
