I know that pretty much everywhere in the world uses this
saying, “If you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes.” Well, not Hawaii
of course, but anywhere that actually has weather uses that saying. Today it
was true in Calgary .
I woke up to see the snow falling and all of the lawns, cars
and roofs covered with snow. It was just around freezing, so not too cold, but
it came as a surprise to me. I was thankful that I had cut the lawn yesterday,
and even more thankful that the snow melted on the cement walkways before I had
to shovel it. We take the small blessings where ever we can find them.
Buster and I went for a walk an hour or so later and we were
hard pressed to find any snow at all. It’s not that it was hot, but with the
sun shining down and the warmth stored up in the ground itself; the snow didn’t
stand a chance. By the end of the day, we had what the weather guy called an
average day for this time of year. He may have said some other words, but that
was the gist of it. I was kind of hoping he would have said “Well, I really
buggered the forecast up last night. Thankfully, the station owner doesn’t
expect too much accuracy from me. He thinks meteorology is just slightly more
believable than witch doctoring and snake oil salesmen. It’s a great gig if you
can get it.”
I am about ready to go to bed and have no idea what will be
waiting for me when I wake up. Hopefully we won’t have tornados, hurricanes,
volcanoes, earth quakes or any other unexplained or explained phenomena. It
would be pretty cool if there was manna on the ground in the morning. Not only
would it save on the breakfast bill, but it would also go a long way to firm up
my belief in an all powerful, all seeing, benign being that keeps an eye on us
and punishes us for slight transgressions.
It might be easier to wish for snow.
