Call Me

Is anybody out there?

Hello!

So far, we haven’t heard a word one way or the other. Personally, I am absolutely convinced that we are not alone. With all of the trillions and trillions of planets in the universe it would be inconceivable that our little planet tucked away in the corner of a rather non descript galaxy would be the only one capable of supporting life.

Now, it is possible that there are millions of worlds that have developed various forms of intelligent life and due to the nature of physics and the galactic distances involved we are all doomed to stay alone. We have such a short amount of time to contact each other. The human race has been around for about 100,000 years and I would be generous to give another 100,000 before we either evolve into something else or become extinct. I suspect we will be extinct in another 10,000 years, max. It has only been the past fifty years or so that we have had the technical wherewithal to send or receive messages. The vast distances involved would make any kind of two way communication impossible. Improbably, nothing is impossible I suppose.

Even if we received a message, the beings sending it would be either extinct or far beyond caring about a little blue ball in the Milky Way galaxy by the time we got it. I want to believe that an advanced civilization will one day contact us and give us some much needed answers. I would be satisfied if someone discovered intelligent life on this planet.

Most of our science fiction shows depict aliens as a threat to our people and planet. More of a threat than we are to ourselves? I seriously doubt that. It’s possible that advance scouts have landed on the planet and spent some time making circles in corn fields or doing anal probes on the people of rural Kansas. The question is “Why would they bother?” I can see they may wish to insert recording devices in our bodies to track us and keep records of our migration patterns, diet and sexual proclivity. I can’t imagine they would put their recorders in someone’s anal cavity, the reception would be shitty.

I just finished watching “Contact” with Jodi Foster, based on the novel by Carl Sagan. It is a wonderful story which deals with this subject and I’d like to think it is the more probable way things will or would happen.

I’m ready for extra terrestrial contact right now! …now…now…now.

Okay, take your time; we have another 997,985 years to kill anyways.

Call me….
