We are going on a short trip tomorrow and it is kind of a
pain in the ass. I don’t particularly like to travel, but it is one of the evil
necessities you have to put up with if you want to get some where you aren’t.
Modern day travel is pretty easy, just hop on a jet and in a
few hours you are where you weren’t just a little while ago. Yes, there is some
unpleasantness involved in travel, like the airport security monkeys. The whole
get to the airport two hour early and sit and wait for two hours in a “special”
waiting area. Line up to board the plane like a herd of cattle going to an abattoir.
Squeeze into seats that aren’t really comfortable for anyone and watch crappy
TV on a tiny screen.
Once at your destination you repeat the process, and pick up
your bags. Then, if you have rented a car you wait in line behind five other
couples whose bags came off of the plane first. Wouldn’t you think the rental
company would have extra staff scheduled to work since everyone had booked the
car pick up for a certain time. Oh well, I suppose they have their reasons.
I was just thinking that a couple of hundred years ago, a
trip would involve months of planning, a ton of money and more months of actual
travelling. Horse, carriage, train, steam ship and probably a lot of walking
would eventually get you to your destination. Once there you would see things
that you had read in stories, eat strange and exotic foods and make memories
that would last a lifetime. Ahhhhh, the good old days!
Well, here’s to memories and fast travel. Thank God I was
born when I was.
I suppose I should pack and try to remember that thing I was
planning to bring…
