Doing Something Stupid

I don’t know what it is about today, but almost everyone I have met today thinks it’s Friday. Just in case you are one of those people, it’s Thursday. Well, it will be Friday by the time you read this, but it is being written on Thursday.

I had a UPS guy come to the door with a parcel and as he was walking away, he wished me a nice weekend. I told him that it’s not Friday and he looked back at me and said “Yes it is!” Boy is he going to be disappointed when he finally figures it out. Louise was watching TV and I heard a discouraging word, followed by “It’s not Friday night is it?”

It happens to all of us at some point or another, and it’s never one of those things that will bring a smile to your face. Sure, it will make your friends laugh at your misfortune, but I’ve never thought it was funny.

Once I got up, put on my uniform and was having my morning tea and eating my breakfast. I was more or less just staring into the bowl of cereal looking for some pattern that would give me the answer to the big life questions. Ten minutes in and all I could see was mushy shredded wheat. Louise came into the kitchen and said “What are you doing?” “I’M GETTING READY TO GO TO WORK…OKAY!!!!”

“You know it’s Saturday don’t you?” she said as she turned and went back to bed. I was happy of course, but now I was awake and would have a hard time getting back to sleep, not to mention that Louise would have proof for the rest of my life that I am not the morning person I think I am.

We all do it, but most of the time we are the only witnesses. That’s all that one can hope for in life isn’t it. When you are doing something stupid, there is no witness.

  1. I remember an old comic strip of the Born Loser, he goes through the whole office saying TGIF! TGIF! until someone finally says. It's Thursday. I love that one!

    1. I'm pretty sure that I saw that Kathy. Why can I remember that and not where I put my glasses five minutes ago.
